2018 MPE Sandpit Meeting
Date and time
Location
Imperial College London/University of Reading
Description
The sandpit is an annual event where potential supervisors for MPECDT students pitch ideas for projects. There is considerable scope for collaboration on this and student input is crucial, thus there are both presentations and breakout sessions for staff and students together. It is also an excellent mechanism to instigate new collaborations within the School, across different Universities and even with industry. In 2018 we are holding separate SandPits at Imperial College London on October 24th (EPSRC CDT hub, room 402) and the University of Reading on October 25th (Meadow Suite).

The MPE CDT is a 1+3 year funded PhD programme, with the first year taking the form of an MRes (Masters by Research) course, leading to a jointly awarded degree from Imperial College London and the University of Reading. The following 3 years focus on the PhD project, and lead to the award of a PhD from either Imperial or Reading, depending on source of the major supervisory input.
The first year MRes students work as a cohort across the two institutions, whether based in Reading within the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences or based at Imperial within the Department of Mathematics, in each case in high spec accommodation designed for the CDT.
